8/30/07: Put up some interior pages. This page will eventually become a blog, the gallery will have thumbnails to larger pictures, register will allow you to register to use the forum, forum will (duh) have a forum to chat, and genealogy will have the Salathe family tree. Right now Rei is 8 weeks along, and doing fine. No morning sickness (knock on wood). I will try to get the forum up ASAP so the family can chat.

8/31/07: Rei went to the doctor this morning to get her letter saying she is officially pregnant. The doctor told her that she is normal, but only in reguards to the pregnancy (Ha ha). Have a good Labor Day, everyone.

9/5/07: I just posted pics of the nursery in the gallery. All we need now to complete it is the crib from Rei's sister, Elizabeth. We got the glider, and Rei recovered the cushions in "Heffalump purple" to go along with the Winnie the Pooh theme. Right now she is taking it easy with the cats and our new dog,"Cody." 9 weeks down, 29 to go.

9/11/07: Everything is going smoothly so far. Rei is very tired all the time. We're on week 10. Only 10 more and we find out the sex. This couldn't drag out any longer, could it? Went to Springfield and Rei got me to buy a book for expecting fathers. Good reading.

9/15/07: Went to the hospital last night because Rei had very slight spotting. All tests showed everything is ok, and we got to do an ultrasound. Check the gallery for the pictures. Still too early to tell if it's a boy or girl, but at least we know that everything is forming the right way. Rei is going to be taking it easier for now on, just to be safe. More later.

9/19/07: Nothing new in baby world. In unrelated news I just cut the grass Saturday for the first time in 6 weeks. The temps in the area got up to 100, killing the grass for that amount of time. We had about 3/4 in of rain in August. Glad that is over. Last week we didn't have to use the AC at all, temps got down to the high 40s at night and high 70s during the day. I'm sure everyone back in New Orleans is getting ready for Oktoberfest. Check the Deutsches Haus for schedules.

9/29/07: We went to Rei's doctor appt. yesterday morning and got to hear the baby's heartbeat (You can too in the gallery). The only thing I can compare the sound to is, in Star Trek 4, the giant black vienna sausage that comes to earth in search of humpback whales. Well, enough nerd references. That's about it. All is well, and we are cleaning the house (and baby-proofing) in anticipation.

10/09/07: All is well. Nothing much happening. Rei is starting to show slightly. She is in the "chubby" stage, where she doesn't look pregnant, but she is getting bigger. I will be putting pictures of what she looks like in the gallery fairly soon, probably on Sat. We are 14 weeks and counting. That's all for now.

11/06/07: Well, Rei has been down in N.O. for a couple days now. She has told me the baby is getting into position higher up, and she can feel it moving around. Only 2 weeks until we find out if it is a boy or girl. Uncle Gregg has reminded me that I am the last male Salathe in our part of the line. No pressure or anything. I added the family tree to the genealogy tab. I will be updating it as I can. 18 weeks down.

11/20/07: We went to the ultrasound yesterday to find out and.... IT'S A BOY!!! The Salathe name will live on! Anyway, we found out all the parts are all there, the head is the perfect size, the femur is the perfect size, all looks real good. I added the ultrasound picks to the gallery under ultrasound. The first pic clearly shows it is a boy (after someone points it out to you). Hint: it is on the right side. 20 weeks down, 20 or so to go.

12/23/07: Doctor appointments thus far have all been normal, with the baby having perfect measurements. We're now 6 months along (25 weeks), so one more trimester to go. There are new pictures of the nursery and updated the pics of Rei's stomach ...not much else, so, Merry Christmas, everyone, and Happy New Year!

1/27/08: Rei was down in New Orleans for two weeks to visit and be there for her baby shower, thrown by her sister (Elizabeth), my sister (Katie), and my aunt (Sharon). I left her a thorough mess to clean up when she got home. She loved it! I added the seventh month picture, as well as some pictures of the baby shower that were taken by Jackie Elliot, a friend of my grandma's. Rei is now 30 weeks along (and has to roll off the couch). She had a doctor's appointment last week and took her glucose test - all was normal. The next appointment will be on Feb. 4th, which will start her going to the doctor every two weeks now as the birth gets closer. We have decided on the name Maddox for the baby. Finally, we'll be going to our first birthing class on Tuesday the 29th. I guess that will be 2 1/2 hours of deep breathing, and maybe a little snoring.

3/17/08: We're at 37 weeks now, and Rei will be going for checkups every week now until the baby is born. Today she found out that she's dilated at 2 cm, and the doctor said, "Hopefully you'll last another two weeks." Coincidentally, two weeks is when her regular doctor (she had a substitute today) gets back into town. As far the website goes, I've added some pictures to the gallery (some tummy shots and a little snow bonus from February) and updated this page. That's about it . . .Happy Easter! P.S. Rei waddles now and I laugh at her . . .out loud.

3/24/08: Now at 38 weeks. Today at her appointment, Rei was told she is still 2cm dialated, and her regular doctor will be back tommorrow. Happy birthday Katie. Nothing else new to report.

4/14/09: Happy Birthday Maddox Josef Salathe!!!! Everything went fine during delivery. He was born at 4:49 AM weighing 7lbs 9oz, and 22in long. Pictures are posted in the gallery.

5/11/08: Happy 1st Mother's Day to Rei, and to all the rest of the moms in the family. Moddox is almost 1 month old now, chubbing up nicely and will be getting his 1 month pics taken on Fri. All the grandparents have visited, and Maddox's weekly pics are spread throughout. He has had his 2 week checkup, and everything is normal. He seems to have good neck control already, and seemed to be able to focus on things right out of the box, and yes we are breastfeeding.
